That's what it seems like, but I've checked the comfiguration and as far as I can tell everthing looks correct.  I compared the SCSI entries in the .config with the ones in the kernel that works and they look OK too.  I think something must have changed in the kernel that is causing the SUSE initialization code to not work as expected.
