In the past I just kept a copy of the original source tree in one dir,
then did my hacking in a copy, then later diff'ed the two dirs. These
days I mainly use git. Some people use quilt.
The 'Kernel Hackers' Guide to git' at
http://linux.yyz.us/git-howto.html is a good place to start if you
want to learn git. The git man pages and and documentation at the git
website (http://git.or.cz/) are also good sources of info.
what mailer do you use ? is your mailer comfortable for sending and
receiving patches ?
I sometimes use pine, sometimes kmail and both work just fine for
sending patches.
do you think gmail is good for sending patches ?
The web interface is useless, but both pine and kmail (and other
clients as well) can be setup to send/recieve gmail mail and that way
gmail is perfectly usable for sending patches. See
