Problem with Kernel Compilation

Hi all,

I am trying to compile linux kernel first time. The kernel souce
version is 2.6.16. After issuing the command

make zImage,

I got the following error:

 SYSMAP System.map
 SYSMAP .tmp_System.map
 AS arch/i386/boot/bootsect.o
 LD arch/i386/boot/bootsect
 AS arch/i386/boot/setup.o
 LD arch/i386/boot/setup
 AS arch/i386/boot/compressed/head.o
 CC arch/i386/boot/compressed/misc.o
 OBJCOPY arch/i386/boot/compressed/vmlinux.bin
 GZIP arch/i386/boot/compressed/vmlinux.bin.gz
 LD arch/i386/boot/compressed/piggy.o
 LD arch/i386/boot/compressed/vmlinux
 OBJCOPY arch/i386/boot/vmlinux.bin
 HOSTCC arch/i386/boot/tools/build
 BUILD arch/i386/boot/zImage
Root device is (3, 3)
Boot sector 512 bytes.
Setup is 7247 bytes.
System is 1086 kB
System is too big. Try using bzImage or modules.
make[1]: *** [arch/i386/boot/zImage] Error 1
make: *** [zImage] Error 2

Could any one expain me what is this error meant by? I thought their
is space problem in hard disk. Whether it is correct or not? If not
what is the problem here.

Thanks Manjunath Naik
