getting a patch into the confi/menucofig dialog (Sun Happy Meal for Ultra1)

Well, I am not yet a kernel newbie and I have very litle knowledhe
about programming at best but there is somethonh in the kernel which
bothers me).

The network interface card of the Sun Ultra 1 (Happy Meal) is very
unstable unless you apply a patch:

(No, I am *not* its author.)

What I would like is to patch the kernel sources so that I can chose
in the kernel configuration whether I want to build a kernel for use
on a maschine with this (br0ken) NIC. 

Is there anyone to provide hints where I need to go?
