How to increase IO size of buffer cache

Hi - 
We are writing a file system in which we need to read/write blocks of
size  greater than or equal to 4K in one go. As far as my
understanding is we can read 4K in one go throug buffer cache.
Can any one suggest a way ( alternate or throug buffer cache) to do it.
