compiling a particular dir in kernel source

hi all

I want to compile kernel 2.4 such that 
drivers are compiled with additional "-g" option
(and the rest of the source with default option)

I don't have much knowledge about Kernel Makefile.
I saw the makefile in drivers directory but couldn't 
make out anything from it.

Plese suggest me what i need to do to build a kernel
with some of files compiled with -g option.
