pc-card disk thruput low why
I see only 2 MB/s in the latest Knoppix Linux (i.e. kernel 2.4.24, with
a 2.6.5 released promised soon), when asking `dd` to stream from the PC
Card disk drive of a friend.
Should I expect to see better in another laptop or another Linux?
How do I find settings to check?
I had hoped to see bursts of more like 17 MB/s after seeing `hdparm -I`
speak of 2/120 bytes/ns, as I do in desktop IDE. Nothing in /proc/ide
tells my newbie eye that I've gone wrong in setup. I'm told the disk
drive itself, when connected via a Hi-Speed USB adapter, delivers more
like 5 MB/s.
