I'm on x86, and as far as I know, there are two options for
me:

  http://kgdb.sourceforge.net/
... which has patches for 2.4.18 RedHat kernels, and

  http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/akpm/patches/2.5/2.5.70/
... the current mm tree, which includes George Anzinger's patch:
  http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/akpm/patches/2.5/2.5.70/2.5.70-mm5/broken-out/kgdb-ga.patch

I guess you could port the kgdb-ga patch to another kernel,
as a third choice.
