module can't get version number of the corresponding device

When I install a module, the /var/log/messages reports error on can't
get version number of the corresponding device. I am new to this. Can
someone point out what is wrong. Does this has something to do with
devfs as I notice if a USB device was plugged in after the system's
boot, #insmod always gives this error.

Following is log file. Your help will be appreciated,
