In the event your teacher won't allow you to use the LSM interface, you
might have better success hooking fs/binfmt_elf.c. (If you do this, be
sure to not compile in a.out support, for 'complete' coverage, and you
will probably want to disable the binfmt_misc facility as well.)

Of course, if you even have any a.out executables around, I'd be
impressed. :) [and no, lets not relate to the list the horror stories of
the horrible proprietary software you may or may not be forced to use
that is a.out.. :]
