Is there a special reason why you use 2.0.38? I remember that I 
started with 2.0.35, but that was in 1998. 2.0.38 isn't very uptodate. Perhaps you should 
consider to visit http://www.kernel.org and try one of the newer 
kernels (2.4 or 2.5).
