where are argc, argv?

Hello,

I guess, libc passes arguments to a main() function. Does anybody know
when they are evaluated? Where are they stored (i.e. argument count,
pointer to arguments and pointer to env. variables)? For ex, as far as I
know environment variables reside somewhere at the very end of the
address space of a process.
