Try first the rtl8139-update for 2.2.14. If it doesn't work then use
8139too and upgrade at least to 2.2.19 - the driver is still in
development and the version from 2.2.19 seems to work better than the
one from 2.2.18. The 2.2.19 has other useful stuff and security-updates
as well.
I did a stress-test for the last hours and my nfs-server (2.2.19)
doesn't seem to crash anymore (like it did with 2.2.18pre21). Though, I
get lots of "abnormal interrupt, status 51"-messages. I hope this is
harmless. According to Becker's page the status means "Rx Buffer
overflow, set when the Rx ring overflows due to high interrupt latency"
plus "Rx FIFO overflow, set when the Rx ring is full or there is not
enough PCI bandwidth". The server is a Pentium 166 and obviously it
isn't able to handle the load. Since it doesn't seem to trash data or
crash the machine, 8139too works good enough for me now.
regards
Thomas.
