creating a scatterlist

Hi all,

I want to create a scatter/gather list for dma from a pci device. I've read 
DMA-mapping.txt and a host of other stuff, but most of it assumes I know 
the 'basics' already, which I don't and can't find.  Kernelnewbies sent me 
here.

I want to use the pci_map_sg() function detailed in DMA-mapping .txt, but 
have to pass an already created scatter list to it.  Can anyone tell me how 
to do it, or where to find details on it (an example program?).
