Cdrom problem under 2.4.6

Hi....

I am not sure wheather to report this here or not...

I compiled 2.4.6 kernel, and (under it) if I mount a
cdrom and 
list its contents, I get a file names limited to the
8.3 rules of ms-dos, although they have longer names.

For instance if the file name is
galeon.0.whatever.tar.gz, I get galeon~1.gz

please tell me where to report this if this is the 
wrong place....
