Yes, that's absolutely true. Compile with the compiler recommended in
the file Documentation/Changes. I don't know if that particular file
exists in 2.1.125, but if my memory serves me right, we were using
gcc-2.7.2 at that time (or was it still gcc-2.6.3?).
