Hi, 

I'm not really a kernel programmer but sometime ago I played with device 
drivers. I remember specialy how satisfying was to program a mouse device 
driver following the instructions found on one article I found. The author 
could be Alan Cox, but I can't really remember. I think is on kernel newbies 
website
