Yes, they (a few) have been supported by the standard kernel for quite 
some time.

In 2.2.4 the config option is called "CONFIG_NET_POCKET". Try starting 
up menuconfig and look at 'Network device support' --> 'Ethernet (10 or 
100Mbit)' --> 'Pocket and portable adapters'

This is a quote from the help for the above :

  CONFIG_NET_POCKET:

   ? Cute little network (Ethernet) devices which attach to the parallel
   ? port ("pocket adapters"), commonly used with laptops. If you have
   ? one of those, say Y and read the Ethernet-HOWTO, available from
   ? <http://www.linuxdoc.org/docs.html#howto>.

The following are listed in the kernel config:

AT-LAN-TEC/RealTek pocket adapter
D-Link DE600 pocket adapter
D-Link DE620 pocket adapter
