Yes, great point. Most (all?) Linux distributions use the same set of
packages, they just have different installation systems, different default
configurations, etc. THat's a simplistic point of view.
You can't change the way a distribution maker choses to configure the
packages, but if you find a security flaw in a package and contribute it,
the security of all distributions benefit. There are always going to be
different distributions, but under the hood they are all pretty similar.
