The problem is that the word 'admin' can mean a generic "knows
more than the average joe" or it can mean "in depth knowledge
of the system and how it works".
I became a Dos/Windows system administrator simply because
I was willing to poke around and learn a few more things than
the majority of the people around me. Because I knew what an
autoexec.bat and a config.sys were, I was suddenly a SysAdmin.
When I look back, I shudder at my ignorance and bravado, but
I got away with it (and got paid for it). Sure I crashed or locked
up systems a lot, but heck, that's "normal". Nobody else knew
any better. Niether did I for that matter. I like to think I'm a
real admin now. ;-)
Now I'm learning Linux, and it'll be awhile before I adopt the
title "administrator". :)
cheers,
