Help! Mouse no longer working!
Hi!
Recently, I got hold of a S3 ViRGE graphics card, bought in a bundle with
an ESS Solo1. I'm not too bothered about the latter, as it seems to be
supported by the alsa group. The problem seems to radicate in the S3.
Basically, after installation of the card, the system boots up fine (debian
hamm, 2.2.1 kernel...). I tested the card with zgv, as one likes to see
things for real not as some pci bus interrupt sequence :))), and it was
working. Moreover, lspci shows it sitting very nicely on the bus. So far,
not a glitch. The problem arises when I try to move the mouse around. The
mouse is sitting in a corner, and it either works moving around too fast to
be useful, or it just requests one interrupt when moved about. The mouse is
serial, and located at /dev/ttyS0 (irq 4, 0x3f8, according to BIOS and /proc
listings). gpm-mous-test can't locate the mouse either.
The funny bit is that the mouse works fine if I slot my old card (a VGA
that goes into the XT bus), or if I use windows 3.1 instead of Linux.
I believe my BIOS settings are fine (award pnp bios chip), and
everything else I could possibly provide, I'd do "volontiers" as the French
say :)
Please help!!!!
TIA
Jose
