CLUG activities.



Hi!

        About A Coruņa University Linux User Group (CLUG/GPUL)...

	This group was born in half 1998, from a group of Linux enthusiasts
	from FiC BBS ( +34 981 167162, telnet:ceu.fi.udc.es:4444), and the
	system administrators of ceu.fi.udc.es machine (also Linux nerds).

	Many people form inside/outside A Corunna University have joined
	this Lug (up to 37 members) including researchers/teachers of this
	University.

	The group was established in the room where ceu.fi.udc.es is placed
	with 3 Linux computers and 2 terminals.

	In this room, CLUG members develop diverses activities...

	 
	 -Free Linux consultig for people of NorthWest Spain. (We recive
		        about 5 consults each day)

	 -CLUG webpage administration (including mirrors of important Linux
	                 projects)

	 -Processing Linux-related news for NEWS section of our webpage.

	 -Linux and Technical stuff FTP server, including mirrors of other
	                 important Linux related FTPs & projects)

	 -Write articles for Spanish Linux related magazines. The money
	 		we earn with this work is used for paying CLUG
			activities and hardware for our projects.

	 -Programming projects such GGL, PenguinBot, BlacklistEd, Gtalkie,
	   developing Debian packages...

	 -Lend Linux CDs for Linux newbies and helping them to install it.

	 -Reading Linux related books and magazines.

	 -Very_Old Hardware gathering.
	
	 -Just meeting and talk.

	 -Teaching megahal to talk :-)

  *All the students have access to our services via our computer faculty
   network. People outside the faculty can access our web services via the
   Internet.

  *We offer 2 mailing lists by now:
		gpul-list
		gpul-avisos (only for clug members) 		 

   We also offer in read only mailing-list/newsgroups via web like
   freshmeat, debian-*. Linux-kernel, comp.os.linux.announce, Bugtraq...

  *For the near future, we are preparing diverse new activities:

	-Linux introduction, networking and scripting courses

	-A National or Intl. Linux convention which includes...
		-Some Kernel guru talk (Our university will pay the travel
					and stay spendings)
		-UDC (our university) researchers talks.
		-CLUG members talks.
		-Projects exposition.
		-Linux exposition for enterprises and students.
		-Linux users meeting.
		-Linux Install fest.

	-Hundreds of Debian CDs to give away for free.
