GULCh Activities

Hi *

Following Rik's mail, here you are my report! I'm Marco Marongiu,
coordinator of GULCh[1], Sardinian LUG based in University of Cagliari.

UniCA lent us two PCs. The first one works as our web and mailing list
server, as secondary DNS server for unica.it domain and as a POP3 server
for Italian section of AIESEC.

We have a mailing list where we can discuss about GULCh activities and
administration, or just ``chatting'' about off-topics.

We have two main activities.
The first is our mailing list "GULChelp!", our local version of
eulug-help :-) The load is near 100 messages per month (about 1071
messages since Feb 12,'98).
The second is to organize talks in our University. Due to personal
problems or business engagements, we couldn't succeed in organizing one!
We are _slooooowly_ designing a talk: a comparison between LaTeX and M$
Word -advantages and disadvantages related to each solution.

Other minor projects are trying to take off now: an FTP site, mainly for
unica.it users, and the construction of a ``distribution'' of
applications for remote site administration. This activities use the
second PC that UniCA lent us.

About meetings, they are mainly Pizza Meetings :-) We meet some times a
year for a pizza dinner. In our latest meeting we took the time to
discuss about our activities, so that can be considered a serious
meeting.

What we lack? Spare time, it seems! The group's gurus have a job, or a
family, or just a wife and a mistress :-) so it's hard to work for the
group, too. But everybody's giving his/her 100%.

Other things? mmmhhh... damned alzheimer... I can't remember anything
else... ok, that's all!

[1] GULCh stands for Gruppo Utenti Linux Cagliari, that is Cagliari's
LUG, with an "h" added! Some say that "h" stands for "hinterland", so it
should be G.U.L. Cagliari & Hinterland. No official version exists about
the "h" significance.
