[alliance] /. Article

Ok, I've forwarded Spence the rest of the discussion people have posted on
here concerning the /. article.
Thanks to those who answered questions - it's much appreciated (by me
anyway) so the project doesn't come off looking stupid 'cause your
Ambassador did all the talking (and isn't as well informed as he should be
;-)
Spence told me that he's going to be sending a copy of the article to us so
we can check to make sure there aren't any errors in it, etc. As soon as I
get a copy, I'll be sending it along to the list.
Of note: I'm not sure how long it's going to be before we see the article,
or the article gets published. Spence hasn't received any response from
the Freedows camp. However, to be honest, I'll be surprised if he gets
anything more than a hearty "Fuck You!" from Freedows, considering that the
few times that Freedows has been mentioned on /. it's been a subject of
fights and ridicule. Personally, I don't blame him in some ways <GRIN>
And up front - I have a quick bit 'o advice. If you are sensitive to
criticism, don't read the /. messages that the article generates. /. is
mainly a Linux camp - mention of any other OS, no matter HOW cool it is,
generates opinions ranging from "That's stupid/sucks", "Cool, but Linux is
better", "Cool, but what good is it", to "Awesome - but it's gonna get
squashed by Microsoft/Linux/OS of choice." Then there's those people who
really don't know crap about OS development, never contribute to Linux or
any other Open Source project, but are quick to criticize anything.
I'll keep an eye on the /. reactions. We don't need a flame war starting
on /. because someone thinks this project is a stupid concept - or at least
if one DOES start, I don't want it to be this project. If you see
something highly objectionable, please ICQ or email me. If it's a
technical issue, contact Ramon via ICQ or email if you don't think you can
respond without flaming - I remember his contribution during the Freedows /
Alliance split last time, and he did a hell of a job of presenting the
facts during the middle of a firestorm without being insulting, lame, etc.
I really don't expect this to turn into a BBQ like the last one did - no
one here has an ego the size of a small country unlike a certain other
unnamed twit who CAUSED the last one to go bad while we were with Freedows.
But, because my job is PR, I'm hedging my bets, and getting my opinion here
on the list ahead of time just in case things turn ugly for some reason, or
even just to prevent things from turning ugly.
Since we know the server is going to be /.'ed when the article goes up, is
there somewhere that we can mirror the site too easily, and have enough
bandwidth to support it for a day or so? I'd like to give the allos.org
site, but I know it's not going to last long when it goes up. Anyone got a
good solution here?

One more thing - this is a group of questions that I'd like everyone to
think about and answer. I'll take popular opinion as the basis for any
decisions.
1) When would you all, the developers, LIKE to see Alliance start to
become a little more visible? After the first 'official' release?
2) When would you all like to see more developers joining the project?
3) Is there anything, PR wise, that I SHOULD be doing for Alliance now?
4) Later?

...Politically Correct is my middle name... wait. No, Ray is my middle
name... well, it's in there somewhere...
